I think that anybody who knows me, whether in person or online, knows that over the past 6 months or so, I have become a huge advocate of fasting. I started out in February doing Intermittent Fasting (IF), usually, I ate between 2 PM and 6 PM, and fasted between 6 PM and 2 PM the following day. So, a total of 20 hours of fasting per day and a 4-hour eating window.
After doing the IF for a month or so, I got interested in Long Term Fasting. I have done many 10 day fasts since then, a 12 day fast and a 15 day fast. In the past couple of months, I have been doing weekly 6 day fasts with a single feasting day each week (Saturdays).
This strategy has worked very well for me, and I have also enjoyed it a lot. It has been very rewarding.
But, over the past couple of weeks, I have been thinking of taking a break from long term fasts. It is not that I don’t like it, I really do, and I am a strong supporter of long term fasts. But, I have been just wanting to make a little change and take a break. I think I have earned it.
No going crazy
I have no plans of going crazy with eating! Nope! I will still follow a strictly ketogenic diet when I eat, and I will start doing more Intermittent Fasting now instead of long fasts. My plan is to probably do one full day of fast, then on the next day I will fast until noon or 2 PM and eat 2 meals, then go back for another round of a 42 fast and 2 more meals, etc.
Two reasons
As I said, I started thinking about this a couple weeks ago.
Reason #1 – Christmas is just around the corner
After doing something yesterday, the final decision became clear to me. I got a phone call from probably the biggest Mall operating company in the Philippines. For the past 3 years I have been doing Santa Claus work for them at 3 of their malls, and this year they have an interest in having my company (Santa in the Philippines) taking on more of their malls. My Santa company includes not only myself, but I have a lot of other Santas that work under me as well.
I just started doing the Santa stuff a few years back, and I really love doing it. Because I have lost a lot of weight, I had decided that I would not do any Santa work this year, I would just let my other Santa employees handle that. However, after talking on the phone yesterday with the Marketing Manager from the company, I started feeling very enthused about being Santa myself this year. I love kids a lot, and seeing their joy and amazement with Santa is very rewarding to me.
I weigh in at about 238 right now, and I am still big enough to be Santa. If I lost another 10 pounds, though, I probably would not be a convincing Santa Claus. So, doing IF and eating a reasonable diet will, I believe, allow me to do one more year of being Santa, something that I love doing. Next year, maybe I could use padding on my body or something, I will worry about that when the time comes.
Reason #2 – Listen to what your body telling you
I have a policy that I always “listen to what my body is telling me”. Lately, my body has been telling me it wants a break from long term fasting. So, I have to follow my policy that I promised my family I would do, and that means taking a break. It is time.
The future
As I said, I will still eat a completely ketogenic diet. I will also continue doing IF. I just will not be doing long term fasting for now, unless my body signals me that it is time to start again.
My intention right now is that after Christmas, I will go back to long term fasts and lose the rest of the weight that I want to lose next year. It is not a race! Also, with the diet, I will be eating now and the IF, I may well continue to lose more weight in the coming months, and that is fine too!
Anyway, I have really enjoyed the fasting that I have been doing since February. I am not in any way anti-fasting, I am very much in favor of it. I will continue fasting intermittently and will return for more long term fasting when the time is right. My body has signaled me that it has enjoyed the fasting, and has been healed in so many ways over the previous months!
I will, of course, continue doing this website! This website is not just about fasting. It is about health, curing, weight loss, diet, and all things related. In fact, I have a few exciting things coming to this site, which I will be telling you about in the weeks ahead!
Wish me luck!

Sounds like a well thought out, and good idea! Glad you are going to do Santa! 🙂
Bob
Thanks, Luanne. You know, I thought I would be fine this year just doing more of the management end of the Santa business, but when I started talking to different malls and other clients… it really made me want to get back in the suit again. It is something that means a lot to me. 🙂
Plus, I was already feeling it was time for a bit of a break.

Thank you Daniel. I don’t consider this a loss or a failure in any way. Taking a break is just part of the process!
